The Pestalozzi-Fröbel-Haus provides training for nursery school teachers and social pedagogues working in all fields of social education.
For more than 125 years this has meant responding to social change and the pedagogical challenges that it creates and developing modern, lasting solutions for social education that can prove themselves in theory and practice.
The unique character of the PFH as an umbrella organisation offering both teacher-training schools and the opportunities to put theory into practice means that learning and doing can be interlinked within a training environment. It also allows courses with the flexibility necessary to adapt to the demands of the working environment.
In recent years training in social education has focused on the following areas:
- artistic/productive expression - drama, art education, music, media;
- ecology;
- dealing with cultural difference;
- living alongside handicapped people;
- working with girls and boys;
- implementing theories of social education;
- political debates on current social issues.
Two main objectives of the PFH are to provide accredited courses for women, giving them access to a wide range of jobs in the constantly-changing field that is social education, and to distil the essence of ‘intellectual motherliness’ (Henriette Schrader-Breymann) and professionalism (Child and Youth Welfare Law) into a modern, pioneering concept for kindergarten teachers.
