Day care Centre Perelsplatz

Our day care is in an old traditional villa on the square Perelsplatz, in Berlin-Friedenau. Its three floors offer space for 65 children between two years and school entrance age. We use an open approach in our work with the children.

Our educational work

Educating, raising and caring: we fulfil these tasks by accompanying the development of the children based on our perspective of them. We observe and promote each child as a whole. Our aim is to help awaken and strengthen their individual resources in the sense of Early Excellence. One of our challenges is to take social contexts into consideration, to integrate them into our educational work and in this way recognise and understand the needs expressed by the children. Although the environment can restrict or obstruct the development of each individual child, it can also stimulate and promote it. However, development is never ‘created’ by adults; it is in fact always dependent on the child’s own individual activities, and this is the main focus of our educational work. With this in mind, we also observe the children on the basis of educational and learning stories.

Children need the day care centre as a space that they can thrive in; a space, that they and the teachers shape, and which enables them to satisfy their desire for activity in the best possible ways and with the greatest enrichment. In this respect our rooms at our day care centre simply offer the functional framework. In the final instance, the educational value of what actually takes place during play and learning activities depends on how the day care centre’s play and activity options help the children to discover answers to their explicit and their unformulated questions.

One key aspect of our work at the Perelsplatz Day Care Centre is that each child is seen and treated as an individual personality, not simply as a group member. In order to recognise the children as whole personalities and to make them the focus of our child-centred approach, the team recognises that it is constantly learning and is always prepared to develop further.

These are just a few of the basic ideas that guide us in our work. If they appeal to you as a parent, you’re welcome to phone us to find out when the next information session will take place.

We are open Monday to Friday from 7.30 am to 5.30 pm
