All day care at Neumark Primary School

Neumark Primary School is a regular full-day school in the north of Schöneberg and currently has more than 300 students. 98 per cent of the children have a migration background, mainly with Turkish or Arab roots.

The main emphases at Neumark Primary School are:

  • Social learning as a fixed element in the curriculum
  • Development of language competence
  • German as a second language
  • Working together with parents
  • Open access family counselling
  • Educational work in keeping with the Early Excellence approach which is the guiding concept of the Pestalozzi Fröbel Haus

Everyday life in all day care:

Neumark Primary School works in combination with Pestalozzi Fröbel Haus to create the foundations of the full day school. 27 teachers work together with 21 educational professionals. In addition to this, the school cooperates closely with the PFH institutions in the immediate vicinity, and some of their offers take place at the school itself. These include friendly family meetings, the Juxirkus children’s circus, a family counselling service and various open work projects for children and young people.

Since the school began working together with the PFH, central elements of the Early Excellence approach have been integrated into the school induction phase. These elements include the perception of the children’s individual competencies and potentials, the inclusion of the parents in mutual learning processes and the outward opening of the school towards the neighbourhood. We also see the interlinking of all three aspects in the elementary and primary area as an essential precondition for providing children with targeted and differentiated support. Neumark Primary School also includes the ‘Schuloase’, a children’s help station which, like the full-day care at the school is also run by the Pestalozzi Fröbel Haus. The opportunities offered by the ‘Schuloase’ are designed mainly for the children of the Neumark Primary School, especially those seeking support and affection in acute crises and very personal conflict situations.

The ‘Schuloase’ children’s help station also belongs to Neumark Primary School.

A film has been made about the work of the Pestalozzi Fröbel Haus at Neumark Primary School as part of the ‘Kamera-Ethnographischen Studien’ series: ‘Schule für Kinder: Rhythmen ganztägigen Lernens im Grundschulalter’. It portrays teachers and educators working closely together in order to support not only the children’s individual learning processes but also the experience of learning from one another and of learning together.
